There’s a unique thrill when the open road starts to climb, when the air gets crisper, and the horizon transforms into jagged peaks. For me, Waheed Imran, while UX design and digital marketing fill my professional days, it’s the rumble of my Yamaha YBR-G 125 and the call of adventure that truly feeds my soul. Recently, that call led me to the breathtaking landscapes of Azad Kashmir, on a journey to conquer the heights of Pir Chanasi, navigate the serene paths of Sudhan Gali, and stand in awe of Ganga Choti’s majesty. This wasn’t just a ride; it was an immersion into paradise on two wheels.
The Steed and The Gear: Ready for the Ascent
My trusty Yamaha YBR-G 125, though modest in displacement, has proven itself a capable companion for Pakistan’s diverse terrains. For this Kashmiri escapade, it was kitted out with side boxes and a tail box, essential for carrying everything from spare layers to camera gear. Protection is paramount, so my Jiekai helmet and AMUR riding jacket were non-negotiable, ready to face the mountain elements. With the bike prepped and spirits high, the journey from Islamabad, began, the anticipation building with every kilometer.
Pir Chanasi: Touching the Clouds

The climb to Pir Chanasi, towering at over 9,500 feet near Muzaffarabad, was the first true test and reward. The YBR-G, with its nimble handling, took the winding roads in stride. Each hairpin turn revealed a more stunning vista than the last – lush green valleys unfurling below, the Jhelum River snaking its way through the landscape. The air thinned, the temperature dropped, but the sheer beauty was invigorating.
Reaching the summit, the panoramic view was simply breathtaking. Clouds drifted below, creating an ethereal, otherworldly atmosphere. The shrine at the top, a place of spiritual significance, added a layer of tranquility to the raw natural beauty. Standing there, with my bike parked nearby, the wind whipping around me, I felt a profound sense of accomplishment and peace. It’s moments like these – earned through effort and a bit of engine roar – that define adventure.
Sudhan Gali: A Serene Interlude

Descending from Pir Chanasi, the journey continued towards Sudhan Gali. This picturesque hill station, nestled amidst pine forests, offered a gentler, more serene experience. The ride through the fragrant woods was therapeutic. The YBR-G hummed contentedly along the smoother roads, allowing me to soak in the tranquility of the surroundings.
Sudhan Gali is a place to breathe deep and reconnect. I took my time, stopping to admire the dense forests, listening to the birdsong, and enjoying the cool, clean air. It was a perfect contrast to the challenging ascent of Pir Chanasi, showcasing the diverse experiences Kashmir offers motorcyclists. It’s a reminder that adventure isn’t always about conquering peaks; sometimes, it’s about finding peace in the journey itself.
Ganga Choti: The Majestic Crown

The final jewel in this Kashmiri crown was Ganga Choti. The route to its base, often involving a mix of paved and unpaved sections, truly put the “G” (for “Ground Clearance” or “Go-Anywhere”) in YBR-G to the test. My AMUR jacket kept the chill at bay as we climbed higher, the landscape becoming more rugged and wild.
While you can’t ride all the way to the absolute peak, the approach and the subsequent trek (if you choose to do it) offer some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the region. The views of the surrounding peaks, often snow-capped even in warmer months, are awe-inspiring. Ganga Choti stands as a majestic sentinel, a powerful reminder of nature’s grandeur. Capturing these views, knowing my reliable YBR-G had brought me this far, filled me with immense satisfaction. The side boxes proved invaluable for stowing away layers as I hiked, and the Jiekai helmet sat patiently on my mirror, awaiting the next leg of the journey.
More Than Just a Ride: Reflections from the Saddle
This trip through Pir Chanasi, Sudhan Gali, and Ganga Choti was more than just ticking off destinations. It was about:
- Connection: With the incredibly hospitable people of Kashmir, always ready with a smile and a cup of chai.
- Challenge: Pushing myself and my machine, learning its limits and my own.
- Discovery: Uncovering hidden viewpoints and experiencing the raw, unfiltered beauty of my country.
- Freedom: The unparalleled feeling of navigating these majestic landscapes on two wheels, dictating my own pace and path.
My YBR-G 125, equipped with practical luggage and paired with reliable riding gear like my Jiekai helmet and AMUR jacket, proved that you don’t need a behemoth adventure bike to experience the heart of Pakistan’s beauty. What you need is a spirit of adventure, a reliable machine, and a willingness to explore.
